It is the DABA committee's intention to provide a program or competition for all interested players, but we need community support to faciliate these program and competitions.  The number of registrations in each year group will determine the age grouping thst the committee will arrange.  Age groupings cannot be guaranteed, and will change from year to year.  However, in general, we aim to provide the following:

Aussie Hoops or Mini Ball*

Aussie Hoops & Mini Ball are both introductory programs for children in Pre-Primary to Year 2.  These programs provides players with the opportunity to learn basketball basics, gain confidence, get active, make friends, and have fun in a safe and inclusive environment.  This program runs for 8 weeks followed by a fun windup day.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and appropriate sports shoes.

*Mini Ball may be changed to an alternate participation based program (ie Aussie Hoops) at the discretion of the committee

Junior Boys & Girls (Year 3-4) *

This competition has been designed to cater for girls and boys in Primary School Year 3-4.  This is a team-based competition where players join as individuals and DABA will place players into teams.

Players are initially placed into a trial team, and this team is graded against other teams in the same year group.  Grading normally occurs on the first playing date of the season, and it runs as a ‘round robin’ style format whereby teams play shorter games against all teams in the competition.

DABA Committee representatives will assess each team and move players into different teams to try to balance the teams to be as even as possible.  The committee will accept specific requests for players to be together, however, these must be received via email (dbkbasketball@gmail.com) prior to the finalisation of teams and no guarantees can be given to individuals about where they will be placed as an even competition is our biggest priority to ensure that all children enjoy the playing experience.

If your child has extenuating circumstances (in regard to social interactions with others etc), please put this in writing to the committee as soon as possible prior to the start of the season so that we can assess your child’s needs.

Coaches are expected to rotate players on and off the court with fair and even court substitutions.

Intermediate Boys and Girls (Year 5,6,7)*

Senior Boys & Girls (Year 7,8,9)*

Senior Mixed (Year 10,11,12)

*Note - Year 7 players have the option of staying in the intermediate division or moving up to the Senior Division.  Players nominating for the higher division must be competent players who will not be intimidated by the strength of older players.

Open Competition – Mens & Womens  (Only when offered)

This competition is open to adult players.  Players form teams and then join the competition as a team.  If DABA does not have sufficient interest to run this program, an alternate program of a mixed competition may be offered by the Donnybrook Recreation Centre (Donnybrook-Balingup Shire).   This program is not available in 2023.
